A young woman must make amends to earn entry into the afterlife for herself and her three souls.
1920’s China is fractured by civil war and social turmoil. Behind the magnificent gates of the Song family estate, none of this upheaval touches Leiyin, a spoiled and idealistic teenager. When she falls in love with the handsome left-wing poet Hanchin and defies her father, however, she learns the harsh reality of her position: as a daughter, her life is entirely under her father’s control.
Leiyin’s punishment for disobedience leads to exile from her family, an unwanted marriage, a lover’s betrayal – and an act of revenge that goes horribly wrong. Now a ghost, she must make amends to earn entry to the afterlife. When danger stalks her daughter, however, Leiyin must make another terrible choice.

About the stories on this website: My father was a great storyteller and recounted tales about our ancestors, tales of ghosts, dragons, and immortals. After he died, I wrote them down so that they would not be lost to the next generation of our family. These are the stories I"m sharing, along with blog posts with comments on each story. My hope is that these stories encourage you to write about your own family's history. Memory is fleeting and so easily lost. Paper endures. Or, in this era, pixels endure.
About book reviews: For review policies, read How I Write Book Reviews.
About author interviews: Quite a few of the books on my list are by authors I discovered on the Internet, using social media. I liked their blogs and got interested in their books (see, it does pay for authors to use social media). My goal is to reach out and ask for interviews from every author whose book I review. See how that works out.
About me: I live in beautiful Vancouver, Canada. Married to the same great guy for 20+ years. One cat. There’s a day job, but no need to talk about it here. I’m a graduate of The Writer’s Studio (2011) at Simon Fraser University. My literary agent is Jill Marr, with the Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency.
